Hello and welcome to the Brooklyn College GK-12 'City as Lab' website. This website serves as an information portal for teachers, fellows and faculty involved in the BC-GK12 "City as Lab" program. The BC GK-12 project, funded by the National Science Foundation, places graduate students in the sciences into public high schools in Brooklyn NY. Working with high school teachers, the graduate students engage the high schoolers in challenging projects, design to stimulate their interest in science and engineering. These projects draw on the idea of using Brooklyn itself as a laboratory. Students measure aspects of the city, environments ranging from the polluted Gowanus canal to the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge, and use Geographic Information Systems to map their results. For contact information click on the "Contact Us" link. For more information about the projects the BK-GK12 program is supporting at individual high-schools please click on the "Projects" link. For information about current events in the BC-GK12 program please click on the "Announcements" link. This site will be updated frequently throughout the year, so please check back often.
